Meet Shobana
Ms. Shobana, is the only artiste in the history of Indian Art who has excelled in the fields of Classical dance, Feature film and as an Institutionalist.
Exponent Of Bharatanatyam
Born into a family of legendary dancers, the Travancore sisters - Lalitha, Padmini and Ragini, Shobana was initiated in the art by the legendary Guru Smt K J Sarasa for a few years.
It was the illustrious Bharatanatyam exponent and performing guru - Padmashri Chitra Visweswaran who honed the passion in the young artiste at the Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts.
The intricacies of the style as well as its academic nature, kept her pre occupied with performing even though she had a full time film career side by side.
Ms. Shobana branched out as an independent choreographer and teacher in her early twenties.
Her repertoire consists of classical ‘Padams’ and ‘Varnams’ which are the base for traditional Bharatanatyam emoting as well as choreographies ranging from western classical music and the Sufi style of music. 'It was the dancer's unstinting connection with her art that was the real appeal, and thereby was Shobana’s forte. That moment where she tied one episode in space and time to another, with total conviction was unforgettable’.
