Meet Speaker - PC Musthafa
Nobody epitomizes the quintessential rags-to-riches story better than PC Musthafa, the man behind the Rs. 100 crore idli and dosa batter brand, iD Fresh. A brand that has gone on to become a staple in every kitchen across India and the Middle-East.
P.C. Musthafa, was born in a small village in Kerala, and his father worked as a collie in a coffee plantation. His mother never went to school.
The stark lack of resources and opportunities resulted in Musthafa failing 6th grade and almost dropping out of school. Backed by a teacher who believed in him, Musthafa convinced his father to give school one more try. He had always had an affinity towards Mathematics and soon began doing extremely well at school. He went on to study engineering at NIT, Calicut and bagged a job at Motorola in Bangalore. While on an assignment in Ireland, Musthafa realized how much he missed his country and yearned to return to India. However, financial constraints forced him to take up another well-paying job in Dubai and much to the shock of his friends and family, Musthafa decided to call it quits after a seven-year-long stint. He had always wanted to start something of his own.
In 2005, Musthafa and his cousins, Shamsudeen, Nazer, Jaffer, Noushad and Musthafa, started their company ID freshfoods the beginning of their batter business with an initial investment of ₹25000. Musthafa who was then pursuing a management degree at IIM, Bangalore, finished his studies and joined his cousins full-time as the CEO of iD Fresh Food in 2007. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, iD Fresh Food produces around 50,000 kg in its plant with a total investment of around Rs. 4 crores. The revenue of iD Fresh Food has already touched the magical figure of Rs. 100 crores. Mustafa aims of making iD Fresh Food the most popular and trusted brand in India and make it a Rs. 1000 crore company by 2020. He also says he will be employing at least 5000 people by then.
Mustafa who employs only rural poor people with commitment says it is very hard to find a right team to take the company forward. But this does not stop him from dreaming a beautiful future for his company.
