Meet Som Mittal
When referring to the drivers behind the progress of the IT Industry, Som Mittal’s name figures among the top few. Having completed his graduation and post-graduation from India’s most prestigious institutes – IIT Kanpur and IIM Ahmedabad, respectively – Som Mittal has served the Corporate sector for over three decades in various roles and senior capacities. Som has held leadership positions in HP, Wipro, Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation, and in his most recent position as President of NASSCOM, he helped steer the industry is known to grow from $60 billion in 2008 to $108 billion in 2013 in very difficult environment and circumstances.
Som started his career in the engineering/automotive sector and served companies like Larsen &Toubro, Escorts and Denso. During his tenure in this industry, he was successful in setting up Greenfield joint ventures and manufacturing facilities imbibing Japanese technology and practices. When with Digital Equipment Corporation, Som was responsible for its successful turnaround. Besides, he has also been credited for effective integration and successive mergers with Compaq and HP, which made him the person to seek out for to manage joint ventures and growing business in turbulent environments. Som has been in several global roles and built and managed large teams globally. He has successfully led policy advocacy initiatives in India, Washington DC, and Brussels among others. He has been recently tasked to develop the IT Vision for Indian Railways. |
