Arunima Sinha is the World's one and only female amputee to climb Mount Everest. In January 2019, Arunima Sinha also became the world’s first woman amputee to tackle Mount Vinson, which is the highest peak of Antarctica.
Having represented India in the volleyball and football team, Arunima always dreamt of being a part of the Central Industrial Security Force. As she fell on the tracks, a train on the adjoining line crushed her leg below the knee. She was then rushed to the hospital with serious leg and pelvic injuries. The doctors treating her decided to amputate her leg, to save her life. For an average person, such a life-altering accident would have devastated their hopes and dreams, but Arunima was no average person and refused to let the incident get the better of her.

After 52 days of battling some of the harshest and extreme weather, on May 21, Arunima reached the summit of Mount Everest at 10:55 AM and in doing so, she became the first female amputee to scale the mighty peak and made history.
