VVS LAXMAN - MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER - PROFILE

​Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman - V V S Laxman is a former Indian cricketer. Laxman represented Hyderabad in domestic cricket and has played for Lancashire in English county cricket. He was the captain of Deccan Chargers team in the Indian Premier League in its first year, and subsequently played for Cochi Tuskers. He is now the Mentor of SunRisers team in the IPL and is also a leading Cricket Commentator. Laxman is also a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee of the BCCI.

In a career spanning over 16 years (1996- 2012), Laxman has played 134 test matches, and is the fourth highest run getter in Indian Test Cricket scoring 8781 runs. At his sublime best, VVS Laxman is a sight for the gods. Wristy, willowy and sinuous, his on-side shots are brilliant , yet he is decidedly assured on the off side and has the rare gift of being able to hit the same ball to either side. The Australians, who have suffered more than most, paid the highest compliment after India's 2003-04 tour Down Under by admitting they did not know where to bowl to him. Laxman has played some of his best match-winning innings while playing at no. 3, no. 5 and no. 6. His score of 281 against Australia rang in a new era of Indian dominance which culminated in India gaining the no. 1 spot in test cricket a few years later. His 281 is rated by many as the best ever innings played by an Indian bat. Apart from his superlative performance against the Australians, there are many match winning knocks from Laxman’s blade including the ones overseas against West Indies, South Africa, New Zealand & Sri Lanka. Laxman is well known to have turned around many test matches and his performances in the second innings, when it really mattered, are well acknowledged. One can never forget his batting with a runner due to back spasms, and conjuring a magical unbeaten 73 in a thrilling run-chase in Mohali to beat the Australians.

In 2002 he was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year. Laxman was awarded the Arjuna award and Padma Shri award from the Government of India.
