MEET VIKRAM MANSHARMANI
Vikram Mansharamani is an experienced global equity investor and Lecturer at Yale University. Dr. Mansharamani teaches the seminar “Financial Booms & Busts” to Yale College undergraduates, an extremely popular course as indicated by student reviews and enrollment. He is also the author of BOOMBUSTOLOGY: Spotting Financial Bubbles Before They Burst and is a regular commentator in the financial and business media, having contributed to Bloomberg, MarketWatch, CNBC, Forbes, Fortune, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Yale Global, The South China Morning Post, The Korea Times, The Khaleej Times, Harvard Business Review, and The Daily Beast, among others.
Dr. Mansharamani has been an active participant in the financial markets for the last 20 years. His experience includes positions in management consulting, investment banking, and asset management. Analysis has been the focus of his professional endeavors and his current research interests include bubbles in both financial and non-financial markets, the unsustainable dynamics of food and fuel, and the relative value of experts and generalists in understanding complex problems. Vikram Mansharamani first gained widespread attention in 2011 with his book Boombustology: Spotting Financial Bubbles Before They Burst. He has since gone on to show others how to use his multi-lens approach to manage risk, navigate uncertainty and peer into the future on crucial areas like China, food, the global economy, Africa, housing, investing, financial cycles, energy and much more. Mansharamani believes that the future doesn’t have to surprise us – and won’t – if we develop a Generalist’s mindset. By broadening our view of the world, we encounter information that seems irrelevant. Most people think “So What?!” – but Generalists think “isn’t that interesting” and try to connect the dots. When they do, the conclusions they draw and decisions they make may be very different from more narrow-focused “experts.” Dr. Mansharamani currently serves as chairman of the Torit Language Center Montessori school and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Yale Alumni. He is also a Scholar-in-Residence at Tiger 21 and regularly advises the the organization’s members on matters of asset allocation and investment strategy. He is a former director of the US-Pakistan Business Council, Interelate Inc, and ManagedOps Inc. He earned a PhD and MS from the Sloan School of Management at MIT, an MS in Political Science from MIT, and a BA from Yale University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with distinction. Vikram Mansharamani is a frequently sought-after speaker by a wide range of organizations. He regularly addresses those focused on allocating large pools of capital. He has spoken to audiences of sovereign wealth funds, family offices, endowments, foundations, and registered investment advisors. As a Tiger21 Scholar, he regularly advises the organization’s members on matters of asset allocation and investment strategy. As a speaker, Mansharamani has a gift for connecting with audiences – he is engaging with a keen sense of humor and helps individuals and organizations identify and navigate the booms before they bust – a skill that has earned him the confidence of many of the world’s most impressive companies. Dr. Mansharamani is an aspiring triathlete, a Las Vegas regular, and a formerly competitive squash player. He currently lives in Lexington, Massachusetts with his wife and two children. “Vikram uses economic data and social science to challenge business leaders to think beyond their tenure and outside their comfort zone on what might be possible and likely in today’s highly disruptive world.” |
